Introduction

One of the most prestigious and spectacular ski resorts in Europe is Chamonix in the French Alps, at the foot of 4884m high Mont Blanc, Europe's highest mountain, and only 100 km from Geneva airport.

The mountain village Chamonix lies at an altitude of 1035 m and offers the skier 150 km of the finest ski-able areas up to a maximum altitude of 3842 m, from where the infamous 21 km long Vallee Blanche descent starts. There is nothing like this anywhere!

Chamonix is an outstanding ski resort for everybody. But in particular advanced and expert skiers and snow boarders are visiting every year this lively, charming little town with its wonderful, international ambiance: no wonder, as there are 47 lift systems in 5 major ski areas known as Les Houches, Le Brevent, La Flegere, Le Tour, and Grand Montets and many off-pistes free ride
opportunities for powder snow experts.

When the sun goes down in Camonix, there is no shortage of apres-ski entertainment waiting for the dynamic ski community: plenty of eateries, multi-national (including Chinese!) restaurants, pubs, and bars, casino, cinema, museum, extensive sports centre and video game arcade. La Maison de Montagne, located in the centre, is the focus of all skiers and mountaineers, as all ski schools and tour booking offices can be found here.
